Douglas County Hazardous Waste Collection in Bennett – August 5, 2020

2020 Douglas County Hazardous Waste & Medication Collection Northwest Regional Planning Commission is making it easy for residents to dispose of unwanted or unusable household chemicals. Items to be accepted include oil-based paints, unwanted medication, solvents, pesticides, hazardous cleaners, fluorescent and high-density light bulbs, lead tackle/shot, oil filters, rechargeable and button batteries, mercury, old gas, antifreeze, cell phones and other items considered hazardous, or that you wouldn’t dump down the drain. Materials may be brought to this collection only during designated open hours. Some items collected require a fee, see below. 

50¢ per fluorescent bulb 4 foot and under (includes CFL’s)

75¢ per fluorescent bulb over 4 foot

$ 1.00 per oil filter

Pre-registration is required for businesses wishing to dispose of chemicals and reasonable charges will be assessed. For information on prices and to register (businesses) contact Jen. Pre-registration is also requested from farmers that wish to dispose of hazardous farm chemicals. Items not accepted at this event: asbestos, alkaline batteries (go in garbage), ammunition, explosives, radioactive wastes, compresses gas cylinders (any size), spray-foam cylinders, dried and/or empty paint cans and latex paint (non-hazardous and must be dried out and disposed of with regular garbage).
